Therapy

Matt has completed extensive training in a range of evidence-based therapies. He specialises in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT) and Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA).

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy gets its name from two of the core aims of this type of therapy:
1. Helping people to accept what is out of their personal control, and
2. Committing to actions that enrich your life and are consistent with your values.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a cognitive behavioural therapy (or CBT) that teaches psychological skills to handle distressing thoughts and feelings more effectively so that they have less influence on our lives. These are known as mindfulness and defusion skills. ACT also helps us to clarify what’s truly important to us and uses that knowledge to guide and motivate us to take action.

Applied Behaviour Analysis is an evidence-based treatment which uses the principles of learning and motivation to solve a broad range of problems. ABA interventions are used to support children and adults with mental health concerns, developmental disabilities and learning disorders, and is effective in treating a broad range of issues including social skills problems, communication issues, academic performance, aggression, self-injury and defiant behaviours.
